What are Hepatitis Vaccines?

Hepatitis A and B vaccines are inactivated vaccines that use dead or inactivated strains of the hepatitis virus to help the vaccinated person's immune system learn how to recognize and fight hepatitis virus infections. Although there may be mild side effects after vaccination, the vaccination itself will not make you sick.

These vaccines require multiple doses, and in certain circumstances, booster shots are also needed.

Specifically, AIM Vaccine offers both Hepatitis B and Hepatitis A vaccines:

Hepatitis B vaccine:  Available for infants, children, and adults to prevent Hepatitis B.

Hepatitis A vaccine: Also available for infants, children, and adults to prevent Hepatitis A.

How Hepatitis Vaccines Work

Hepatitis vaccines introduce a safe form of the virus into the body, prompting the immune system to produce antibodies. Antibodies are the body's response to a vaccine or infection and are used to prevent future infections.

Therefore, if you have been vaccinated against hepatitis or have recovered from a hepatitis infection, you will have antibodies in your body that help your immune system recognize and fight harmful bacteria and viruses, providing you with long-term protection against the disease.

Our hepatitis B vaccine is made from purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) expressed in recombinant Hansenula polymorpha yeast, combined with aluminum hydroxide adjuvant.  Once administered, it provides long-lasting protection by continuously releasing the antigen.

Who Should Get the Hepatitis Vaccine? When Should They Get It?

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccine scientists, and healthcare professionals recommend that everyone receive Hepatitis A and B vaccines. While we recommend consulting your doctor for personalized advice, generally, the following groups are suitable for and recommended to receive the vaccine:

Infants, children and adolescents under 19 years old, adults aged 19 to 59 who have not been vaccinated or are unsure of their vaccination status, and adults aged 60 and older who wish to prevent hepatitis.

Therefore, the age range for hepatitis B vaccination is quite broad, and we especially recommend vaccination for newborns and relevant healthcare and laboratory workers. The three doses are administered at 0, 1, and 6 months.
